There was an AIDS Sensitisation week at UNZA which took place from November 27th- December 2, 2006. Events took place throughout the week, organised by different student organisations and held at different venues:
-UNZA Radio Advertisements and Discussions
-UNZA-UNA Library Exhibition
-Mobile VCT Clinics on Campus
-Student Debate (SHARES Common Room)
-UNZA- PSASS Library Exhibition
-UNZA Geography Association vs. Student Association Debate
-SHARES Quiz
-Candle-light Vigile and walk
-March
-WAD Commemoration Event
-Football (soccer) tournament
-Medical Students Union 40th anniversary -Fundraiser
-UNZA-POPSA sponsored Hospice Visit
-Miss UNZA (shares and SFH involvement)
Despite some confusion and rioting surrounding the distribution of t-shirts to student and staff participants, some last minute schedule changes and the usual hang-ups the day went off fairly well. I participated in the commeration event to the best of my ability including dancing and the delivery a speech. As an 'important person' I sat with the Member of Parliament and Vice-chancellor and the other invited guests.
For me, the most meaningful event was the candlelight vigile and walk. It brought the WHY are we doing this to the fore-front and made all of the logistical hang-ups fade from my mind.
(Note: Pictures are pending. I am experiencing technological difficulties)
